I hadn't met Bex or Sam until this February when we did the pre wedding shoot on the Long Walk at Windsor. All those months of communicating via email beforehand gave me the impression that they would be a fun couple and I wasn't disappointed.

So the wedding day was on 7th May 2016 and held at a really lovely venue near Redhill in Surrey, Hook House Farm.

Now some weddings go without a hitch and some have small things that happen, but Bex had her unfair share. Firstly her dress zip broke when she put it on, meaning she had to be sewn into it by one of her talented bridesmaids. Then while that was going on, unfortunately Sam's Grandfather took a fall and had to be checked over at hospital!

Despite all of those things, the day was a huge success and a credit to the couple in organising everything, including a live band during the afternoon and ice cream van after the meal.

Please take a look at the selection of images from the day and I wish Bex and Sam all the happiness they deserve.

Royal visit from HRH The Princess Royal https://www.rivendell-studio.com/blog/2015/9/royal-visit-from-hrh-the-princess-royal Had a very important and prestigious (well for me anyway) shoot yesterday.

I've done a bit of work for the RNRMC (Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charities) and it's one I support personally too.
So when they asked me to photograph a visit from their patron, HRH The Princess Royal, I fe
lt really privileged to be asked and enjoyed every minute of it.

Here is just a small taste of the visit, but it conveys what genuine interest HRH has with the people who work so hard for the charity.

Burlesque Maternity and Baby https://www.rivendell-studio.com/blog/2014/7/burlesque-maternity-and-baby Eris Eveiller is a local Burlesque performer and I had the pleasure of working with her a couple of years ago when we did a portfolio building shoot. We've always kept in contact and when she told me she was pregnant, I jumped at the chance of giving her a maternity shoot to capture this exciting time.

It helps greatly that Eris knows how to pose and this session was a bit more extrovert than the normal maternity session, but that's exactly what was wanted!

Moving on a month and a half later, baby Matty arrived! Again, Eris came back to the studio to get the newborn session completed, which is such an important moment to get captured. The time frame for getting these sweet pictures is really small, so fortunately he came in at just the right time (under two weeks old) and was an absolute star! Slept through almost the entire session, which was great as it cut the session down from the normal 4 hours.

I hope to see Matty back again as he grows up and look forward to the next "little model" to get their first professional images.

My first published Front Cover! https://www.rivendell-studio.com/blog/2014/6/my-first-published-front-cover A few weeks back the editor of the magazine Creative Light, for The Guild of Photographers, sent me a message enquiring about using one of my images for the front cover. The image in question was one I took of studio model, Nicky Robinson (Miss Deadly Red), last year and had just won a Silver Bar award in the Guild's monthly competition the month before.

Obviously I was excited beyond belief that I was to have a front cover of a magazine, especially as it is one for fellow photographers. A week later Julie Oswin (the editor) rang me to say mine had been selected for the second issue, but I was to keep very quiet about it, so as not to lose the impact. This I can tell you was extremely hard to do, but I managed it! I also had to write a small piece about me, the studio and the shoot (which you'll find on pg6).

Those that know me well will know that I'm the worst person in the world to blow my own trumpet! Indeed it's normally the case for me to congratulate triumphs from other, yet fail to divulge my own, so this time I felt it was justified just to say, I'm proud and humbled to have had this honour and I hope it is the first of many publications that my images will grace.

Newborn Posing Workshop https://www.rivendell-studio.com/blog/2013/9/newborn-posing-workshop On the 27th October we are hosting a Newborn Posing Workshop run by fantastic, award winning baby photographer and just been awarded Craftsmen of The Guild of Photographers qualification, Karen Wiltshire.

Karen has the natural gift of making this whole business of working with newborns look so easy, but during the course of the day, she will explain and show how it's done safely, which is paramount.

The workshop is ideal for photographers who would like to know more about this genre and will go away armed with ideas and techniques.

The maximum capacity is for only six delegates, so it is advised that if you wish to take advantage of this fabulous opportunity, you must act quickly and book here.

Photographing Baby Twins Tillie & Lyra https://www.rivendell-studio.com/blog/2013/9/photographing-baby-twins There are some Baby photographers who wait ages to shoot their first multiple birth newborn sessions, but we were very fortunate to tick that box for the first time last weekend.

Beautiful twin girls Tillie and Lyra were born on the 10th August, but due to Lysa's hospitalisation, the earliest we could get them in the studio was last Sunday. Fortunately good friend and fantastic Baby Photographer Karen Wiltshire stepped in to help me and she really lived up to being a true Baby Whisperer!

Hannah and Nathan (the twins parents) got to see a wonderful session where both girls slept pretty much the whole time they were in the studio and today came back to view their pictures. Let's just say the viewing nearly went on as long  as the 3 1/2 hour shoot, in a good way! It always gives us such great pleasure to see how our images are appreciated and the emotion when parents view them for the first time.

From our part, we love doing our baby sessions. It gives us an immense sense of satisfaction, so to end this rambling so you can see the pictures, thank you to Karen for being a star and thanks goes to Hannah and Nathan (and of course Tillie & Lyra) for allowing us to be part of this special moment.

New addition to the Register! https://www.rivendell-studio.com/blog/2013/8/new-addition-to-the-register Sinopa Rin is now on the register!

Now a confession is needed from the start. I shot these test images with Rin last year when the studio was still in a half-way state and totally lost track of the session until the other day. As many will know who have kept up to date with the trials and tribulations of building the studio, it's been a difficult time juggling priorities, so apologies made, here is Rin.

She is a fashion model based down here in the south of England and looks likely to be snapped up quite soon by some top photographers in the UK, so it is with delight I have added here to the Models Register for the studio and here is a sample of the test shoot we did.

Latex Model Day https://www.rivendell-studio.com/blog/2013/8/latex-model-day Miss Deadly Red
Latex Model Day
31st Aug 2013

I am so pleased that Miss Deadly Red is coming back to the studio for a Model Day, in her favoured style of clothing, Latex!

She is a really adept model who, as well as her ability to model so professionally, she is also an awesome makeup artist. You've only got to check out the images created in and out of the studio recently to see that she is a top class model in the making!

Recently I arranged a group shoot with some of my closest photographer friends, to not only test out the abilities of Miss Deadly, but also to show the capabilities of the studio, both inside and out. From the comments I received afterwards, it was a great success, so more of these events will be created for small groups in the coming months.

For now the main event is next weekends Latex day with Miss Deadly Red, so to avoid disappointment, please make sure you click on the ad at the bottom and book your slot.....before it's too late!

We love Babies! https://www.rivendell-studio.com/blog/2013/8/we-love-babies Both of us get such a buzz out of doing our baby sessions. Lysa gets to hold, cuddle and hug these precious bundles and I love capturing a special (if not the most special) part of their new lives.

Although it can take an age to do the newborn sessions, one of the main reasons we do it is to see the faces of the parents when we show them the images at their viewing. Normally Kleenex do very well at this point!

Below are some of the last session we did, with good friend Karen Wiltshire, as part of our ongoing training. In this field of photography, training is extremely important. The baby's safety is of paramount concern and with so many amateur hobbyist "photographers" who advertise cheap sessions on Facebook these days, the new parent is taking a big risk. Unlike us, they have had no training and have no insurance!

We belong to a few professional associations and organisations, including being members of the British Association of Newborn Photographers to make sure we know what we are doing!

Proud member of the BANP https://www.rivendell-studio.com/blog/2013/7/proud-member-of-the-banp BANP Member

As of today Rivendell Studio is proud to be a member of the British Association of Newborn Photographers (BANP).

Not every photographer gains this status as you have to prove that you operate a professional and safe environment to work with babies sometimes as young as three days old. We had to provide proof that we have Professional Liability Insurance before we were granted this status, as well as demonstrating our portfolio was good enough.

Obviously these things are in place already as we always make sure that we are covered by insurance, something that unfortunately a lot of the cheap CD photographers do not care about, hence why they offer low prices. Babies are so precious and delicate, why chance the safety of the baby with someone who doesn't care enough to be fully prepared, trained and insured, all for the sake of making a quick buck!

We have been trained and love taking the first images of these precious bundles and now we are part of a network of fellow professionals across the country, so enjoy the latest newborn session we did of little James.

The Face of Rivendell https://www.rivendell-studio.com/blog/2013/6/the-face-of-rivendell We celebrate the 1st birthday of Rivendell Studio on the 1st July and what better way to celebrate than to announce a new member of our team.

I began the search to find a model who I knew would add 'Wow Factor' over two months ago, but with an exact brief. I wanted someone that not only  looked amazing, but could pose undirected (if needed), good styling, professional makeup skills, but above all, an infectious personality and team ethic.

The more than capable successful applicant was Nicole. She applied to a casting for something else, but as soon as I saw her, I just knew that the search was over. We had a quick chat in the studio, arranged the test shoot and the results are below.

Nicky will be added the studio Model Register for other photographers to work with her in the studio, but more than that, we'll be working on my own projects, working with camera clubs and workshops.

Keep watching out for the latest news and pictures, but for know, enjoy the images that have made me one happy photographer!

Harley Davidson Studio shoot https://www.rivendell-studio.com/blog/2013/5/harley-davidson-studio-shoot When I first took on the studio, one of my main desires was to have a large enough space to be able to do all manner of shoots in. One of the ideas was to be able to shoot motorbikes in there. Up until this weekend that task hadn't been fulfilled, so I jumped at the chance when my brother-in-law bought a brand new Harley Davidson in March.

I'm not a bike fanatic, although Lysa's family all are, but even I have to say this bike is an awesomely, beautiful beast. The heritage of Harley Davidson is legendary and you can't mistake the sound of one when it is ridden, especially when it is ridden into the studio!

I took the shoot on also to promote the studio for a forthcoming event we are covering at the Harley Davidson dealership in Southampton. Hopefully these pictures will impress enough to have many more bikes come through the studio.

The first image is the behind the scenes setup, followed by a selection of edited pictures.

Maternity shoot with Siobhan https://www.rivendell-studio.com/blog/2013/4/maternity-shoot-with-siobhan I had the greatest pleasure last week photographing the maternity session for my dear friend Siobhan. She has modelled for me many times now, as you can see in various pictures on this site, but this time it was a personal thing.

She has just under seven weeks to go before she sees her baby boy for the first time and stay tuned here, as I will be photographing the little man.

In this shoot I tried a lot of different ideas that I hadn't either tried before or allowed to do on a "real" maternity session.

Luna - Test Shoot https://www.rivendell-studio.com/blog/2013/4/luna---test-shoot Further to my training the other week, I wanted to try out my new found skills by trying to go through the routine I had learnt, whilst putting my own spin on a couple of shots.
I'm currently looking for the "Face of Rivendell Studio" which basically means I'm looking for a model that I can work with on projects as well as advertise to other photographers and camera clubs, so the first applicant was Luna last Saturday.
There are more applicants coming through, but enjoy these from a fun shoot.

John Denton Workshops and 1-2-1 Training https://www.rivendell-studio.com/blog/2013/3/john-denton-workshops-and-1-2-1-training I am in the fortunate position to know some genuinely nice people, but even more fortunate to be able to share a weekend with them whilst indulging in my passion for photography. This was the case last weekend when I asked my good friend and top Pro Photographer John Denton to come down to teach two different subjects over the course of the weekend.

The first day was held at a location I know well and again I am fortunate that my friend Mick Butler has a wonderful pre-WW1 boat shed at his disposal on the banks of the River Hamble, in Hampshire. It was here that John's course centered on a Vintage Fashion theme and it was a location that worked so well.

Unfortunately the weather was just plain awful! No snow, but a wind that cut through the delegates wearing winter atire, akin to being in the Artic! But there was no complaint, especially as our model, the beautiful Jennifer Dickinson, was willing to ignore the sub-zero temperatures to give everyone the images that I'm sure will be a main fixture of portfolios for some time!

Sunday's workshop was a complete contrast to the day before. Photographing Nudes was the order of the day and was conducted solely in the confines of the studio. Bearing in mind the second ice age was happening outside, everyone was relieved that the heating was on full in the studio.

I've watched John teach many times, but it never fails to impress the moment you see the light bulb moment happen. It happen with all the delegates on this day, watching the awe in people understanding how light transforms the human form with the slightest of moment.

The finale was "the flour" shot. Simply it was a case of Jen having flour thrown towards her, whilst posing. She is pure class, a true professional and one hell of a model!

John's training is beyond compare and already there is talk of the next workshop, possibly in October, so if you missed it this time round, don't miss next time! Monday was my Birthday and both Jen and John made it such a special day with a 1-2-1 training day for me. An exhausting, but inspirational day of which I am eternally grateful.

The delegates over this weekend consisted were my good friends Clive Hall, Clare Woolford and Lindsay Dobson and new friends Will Genix, Stephen Maitland, Mel Taylor, Terry Kingston, Stephen Duncan and Simon Allen.  Thanks guys for coming and helping us promote the studio and we hope to see you all soon.
